The Department of Communication Arts seeks applicants for a non-tenure-track faculty position for the 2021-2022 academic year beginning August 1, 2021, and ending May 9, 2022.  Rank will be at the Instructor level.  Position serves as the Technical Director of the Theatre.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and participating in service at the Department, College, and University levels.

The Theatre and Dance Programs are two of six programs within the Department of Communication Arts. The Theatre & Dance programs have a combined full-time faculty of ten and over 120 majors. We enjoy strong university support as one of the more extensive programs in the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position serves as the Technical Director of the Theatre and is responsible for teaching technical theatre, stage management, and general education core curriculum. As technical director, the successful applicant will oversee the technical aspects of scenery and lighting while supervising both creative and technical elements of sound for a six-production academic season that includes theatrical and dance performances with additional responsibilities for fundraisers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Technical Theatre or closely related field by appointment date;
    Technical Theatre experience;
  • Knowledge of industry-standard rigging practices and regulations;
  • Understanding of industry-standard safety practices and protocols;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
  • A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds;
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
  • Professional technical theatre experience;
  • Experience of industry standards for the rigging of aerial silks.
